Verna Jean Dawson - Fine Artist
I am currently living in the 'Land of Enchantment' and love it! New Mexico is a beautiful state. I am a porcelain artist. I work mainly on prefired fine china and porcelain. And am going to start painting sinks for resale. I also have done a couple of commerial designs for my current job. I have been painting and drawing since I was a young child. I work also in acrylics and have recently purchased my first 'brick' of porcelain clay and look forward to working with that following my piece from the table up so to say.
I fire all my own work unless its too big for my kiln and then one of the wonderful women I paint with will slip it in her oven for me. I have opened a small studio in Old Mesilla and will be starting to teach in 2011. I am carrying a small amount of supplies and am the sole dealer in New Mexico for a wonderful product called Venetian Veil. If you love working with structure paste of any type you will love this.
I am also I avid photographer and am always trying to get that perfect shot. I swear I will end up backing off a mountain one of these days like Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside in Rosalind Russells 'Auntie Mame' (cira 1958). But I have managed to get some great shots by laying on the ground or contorting in other ways!
I am at the Studio on Fridays and most evenings. If you swing by the 'Old Tortilla Factory Shops' look me up. If you see something you would like and I'm not there just give me a call and I can meet you there.
'The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place:
from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape,
from a spider's web.'
Pablo Picasso.
